HERNDON,
Va. - April 29, 2002
-The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI), an
industry-led consortium, has signed four new members in recent
months. CALNET Inc., the Centre for Microelectronics Assembly
and Packaging (CMAP), Orbotech (NASDAQ: ORBK) and Sun Microsystems
Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) have joined the ranks of NEMI members working
to strengthen the North American electronics manufacturing supply
chain.
"This
group of new members represents the multi-faceted nature of
the supply chain and helps enrich the NEMI mix with their different
perspectives and needs," said Jim McElroy, executive director
and CEO of NEMI. "I believe that our ability to attract
such a diverse group of organizations is testament to the value
NEMI offers its members, whether an OEM/EMS provider, supplier,
solution provider or even another consortium. We welcome these
new members and look forward to their contributions to NEMI's
efforts."
"NEMI
has been resolute in its push for open industry standards, focusing
on everything from performance of electronics packaging to improvement
of supply chain communications," said Eugene McCabe, vice
president, high end operations for Sun Microsystems. "Sun
is committed to pursuing standard solutions and we believe that
NEMI provides an important forum where the entire electronics
manufacturing supply chain can join forces in a united effort
to develop standards that will benefit all of us."
"Working
closely with our customers and other suppliers worldwide is
integral to our success to date and important for future product
development for existing and new markets," said David Doyle,
Orbotech's marketing manager for electronics assembly in North
America and new co-chair of the Test, Inspection and Measurement
Technology Working Group (TWG) for the 2002 NEMI roadmap. "Leveraging
our global experience and technical expertise in automated optical
inspection, imaging and yield management for a broad range of
applications, we look forward to assisting NEMI's roadmap and
gap analysis process, which directly affects the North America
electronics manufacturing supply chain and the new global EMS
manufacturing challenges."
"CALNET's
business and technology consultants are thrilled at the opportunity
to share their systems integration experiences in the manufacturing,
financial and telecom marketplaces supporting NEMI's roadmap
effort. For more than 12 years, CALNET has been working closely
with our clients to increase competitive advantage by leveraging
and transforming processes and systems that utilize emerging
technologies and transaction interaction standards such as Web
services and XML-based solutions. We will work hard to ensure
that our partners and consultants are active contributors and
participants of NEMI's Product Life Cycle Management Technology
Working Group," said Kaleem Shah, president and CEO of
CALNET.
