Managing Infrastructure Architect

Job Description

An Architect to work on the design and integration into the infrastructure of systems supporting a Major Federal Contract.

The Managing Architect will be responsible for establishing, implementing and adhering to Standard Project Management processes, procedures, policies, tools and reporting mechanisms. Will ultimately be responsible for successful completion and execution of several large scale Federal Government projects. These projects will range from enhancements/ upgrades of existing Infrastructure to support new products/business to full blown build out/deployment/implementation of new Infrastructures/Data Centers/etc. to support business. Will interact with a broad scope of various technical (Unix (Solaris/Linux) Sys Admins, Cisco Network Engineers, Microsoft Engineers, NOC, managers) and non-technical (product/program/business managers) departments.

Managing Architect will be involved from the initial high level project requirements analysis, The including defining Business Requirements and Objectives, to the creation of Technical Requirements documents, Functional Specification documents, and technical architecture diagrams, including creation of technical due diligence activities, assessment of appropriate technologies, solution designs, and vendor selections, detailed project schedules and milestones, project budgets based on estimated human resource requirements (and associated burdened costs) tracking project activity and expenditures against plans, and develop and manage project status documentation and communications on a weekly basis and manage project documentation, communications, meetings, and required meeting follow ups.

Reports to the Manager of Infrastructure Architecture and will have close interactions Program Management and Clients.

Job Requirements

Must have 5+ years of Sr. Project Management experience, with AT LEAST the most recent 2+ of those years on large scale Infrastructure (preferably in an Cisco/Microsoft environment) related projects. Must have demonstrated in depth knowledge of internet business practices and operations. MUST HAVE the ability to understand complex Internet/eCommerce Infrastructures, and technical operations environments, and the ability to communicate issues and solution approaches to senior technology management are imperative to success in this position. Must have demonstrated experience leading diverse technical staff (including Unix/MicroSoft Sys Admins, Cisco Network Engineers, Oracle DBAs, NOC) and non-technical staff. Must have experience leading and completing several large scale Infrastructure/ Network related projects from conception to completion (from establishment of business requirements through deliverables). Must have ability to work in fast paced environments. Must have extensive knowledge with Cisco Routers & Switches, Microsoft Server 2003 environments. Must be flexible and creative to adapt to environments where functional and business objectives evolve and change rapidly. Must have impeccable interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with MS Office and MS Project. Should have BS and/or MS in CS or related field. Any PMI or related certifications a plus. CCIE a big plus.

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position and must be clearable to Top Secret. Business will be conducted Reston, VA and Washington DC. Some travel may be required.
